อาร์เธอร์ คริติดอส (Tony Shalhoub) พ่อม่ายเมียตายที่มีลูกติดอีก 2 คน คือ แคธี่ (Shannon Elizabeth) และ บ็อบบี้ (Alec Roberts) แล้วอยู่มาวันหนึ่งก็มีทนายเดินมาหาเขาถึงบ้านและบอก ว่า ไซรัส (F. Murray Abraham) ลุงของเขาได้เสียชีวิตแล้ว และได้มอบมรดกเป็นคฤหาสน์หลังโตให้ครอบครัวของอาร์เธ อร์
จากนั้นทั้งหมดก็ย้ายเข้าไปในคฤหาสน์ที่ว่าซึ่งรูปทร งประหลาด ทำด้วยกระจกทั้งหลัง แล้วยังมีตัวอักษรแปลกๆ จารึกอยู่เต็มไปหมดเลยด้วย มิหนำซ้ำภายในบ้านก็ยังมีชายลึกลับท่าทางหลุกหลิกนาม ว่าเดนนิส ริฟกิ้น (Matthew Lillard) คอยป้วนเปี้ยนอยู่ด้วย
และจากนั้นไม่นาน เหตุการณ์สยองก็เริ่ม เมื่อกลไลในบ้านทำงาน ทางออกทุกทางโดนปิดตาย และเหล่าผีร้าย 12 ตนที่ถูกกักไว้ก็โดนปล่อยออกมาอาวะวาดเพื่อฆ่าคน
