เรื่องนี้ สร้างมาจากชีวิตจริงของ Melvin B. ศาสตราจารย์ผู้นี้ ได้สร้างทีมโต้วาทีของเด็กในโรงเรียนของเขา ซึ่งจากเดิมไม่มีคนเคยรู้จักโรงเรียนนี้ ชนะเลิศมาเรื่อย จนกระทั่งชนะ โดยประเด็นที่สำคัญโต้เวทีส่วนใหญ่จะเป็นประเด็นเกี่ ยวกับ Race & Discrimination กับการพัฒนาทางเศรษฐกิจ ที่จะปล่อยให้คนจน โดยเฉพาะคนดำอดตาย แทนการช่วยเหลือ
