ถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวของ หลุยส์ บลูม(เจค จิลเลนฮาล) นักข่าวอิสระผู้เกรี้ยวกราด ผู้ทุ่มเทตระเวนเก็บภาพเหตุการณ์อาชญกรรมทั่วเมืองลอ สแอนเจลิส ในแบบอินไซต์ใกล้ชิด และจำเป็นต้องฝ่าฟันเพื่อให้มีที่ยืนในแวดวงผู้สื่อข ่าว บางครั้งก็เกินเลย ถึงขั้นจัดแต่งที่เกิดเหตุใหม่เพื่อความสวยงาม จนถลำลึกเข้าไปเรื่อยๆ กว่าจะรู้ตัว เขาก็ทำให้ตัวเองเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของอาชญกรรม แบบถอนตัวไม่ขึ้นไปเสียแล้ว
