ระหว่างสงครามเวียดนาม หมู่บ้านแห่งหนึ่งที่ทหารอเมริกันใช้เป็นจุดสอดแนม ช้างที่นั่นถูกฆ่าตายโดยทหารฝ่ายเวียดนามเหนือ เนื่องจากพวกเขาให้ความร่วมมือกับฝ่ายอเมริกัน ชาวบ้านจึงอยากจะจัดพิธีบูชาให้ช้างขึ้นในสัปดาห์นั้ น
