หน่วยงาน BSAA “คริส เรดฟิลด์” ได้ทำการสืบสวนหาสาเหตุการแพร่กระจายไวรัสชนิดใหม่ ที่ทำให้คนที่ตายไปแล้วคืนชีพขึ้นมาและบ้าคลั่งทำร้า ยคนอื่น โดยมีเบื้องหลังคือพ่อค้าอาวุธชีวภาพ “เกลน แอรีส”
ชายผู้หมายจะครองตลาดค้าอาวุธชีวภาพด้วยการเก็บตกเหล ่าเชื้อไวรัสของบ.ไทรเซล และอัมเบรลล่า โดยไวรัสชนิดนี้ นอกจากทำให้คนกลายเป็นซอมบี้แล้ว เขายังสามารถโปรแกรมให้มันแยกแยะมิตร
หรือศัตรู และมันก็ใช้ได้ผลดีกับพวก B.O.W. อีกด้วย ด้วยความช่วยเหลือของ “รีเบคก้า แชมเบอร์ส” นักวิจัยของ BSAA ทำให้การสืบสวนของคริสคืบหน้าไม่น้อย แต่คริสก็ยังเสียลูกน้องในทีมไปอีก
เขาจึงมาขอความร่วมมือกับเจ้าหน้าที่ความมั่นคงของชา ติ “ลีออน สก๊อต เคเนดี้” มาช่วยอีกแรงในการหยุดไวรัส
