Dersu Uzala จัดได้ว่าเป็น Masterpiece เล็กๆ เรื่องหนึ่งของคุโรซาว่า เป็นเรื่องเกี่ยวกับมิตรภาพระหว่างนักสำรวจชาวรัสเซี ยกับลุงแก่ ๆ ชาวโกลชื่อที่เหมือนชื่อหนัง โดยมีฉากหลังคือความงดงามและความโหดร้ายของป่าไซบีเร ียภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้ซึ่งออกทุนโดยรัฐบาลโซเวียต เพราะคุโรซาว่าเห็นว่าญี่ปุ่นคงเป็นแหล่งทุนทำหนังแก ่เขาไม่ได้ทำให้คุโรซาว่าได้รับรางวัลออสก้าสาขาภาพย นตร์ต่างประเทศยอดเยี่ยมในปี 1975
