ความฝัน เป็น ปรากฎการณ์ที่น่าสนใจ เพราะ ความฝัน เป็นปรากฎการณ์ที่ยืนอยู่สองฝั่ง ระหว่าง ความเป็นวิทยาศาสตร์ และ จิตวิทยา เนื้อหาความฝันไปตีความทางจิตวิทยา ก็เชื่อว่า ความฝันเป็นพื้นที่ให้จิตใต้สำนึกมีเสรีที่จะโลดแล่น เต็มที่ เช่น หากเกลียดใครในโลกความเป็นจริงแต่ไม่กล้าทำอะไร ในฝันเราอาจยำทำร้ายอีกฝ่ายจนสาหัส หรือ หากในชีวิตจริงหลงรักใครสักคนที่ไม่กล้าเข้าใกล้ ในฝันเราอาจครองรักเตลิดเปืดเปิงไปถึงไหนต่อไหน ฯลฯ

The Science of Sleep เปิดเรื่องด้วยฉาก สเตฟาน พระเอกหนุ่มกำลังรับบทเป็นพ่อครัวสาธิตการทำอาหารต่อ หน้ากล้องทีวี เขาเอาเครื่องปรุงแต่ละอย่างมาเทใส่หม้อ พร้อมบรรยายถึงกระบวนการปรุงเมนู ‘ความฝัน’ ที่ตรงกับทฤษฎีทางจิตวิทยา อันประกอบไปด้วยส่วนผสมของ ความคิดที่ถูกสุ่มมา ,ความทรงจำจากอดีต , ความรัก , มิตรภาพ , เสียงดนตรีที่ได้ยิน , สิ่งที่พบเห็น ฯลฯ กระบวนการปรุงอาหารหน้ากล้องทีวี เป็น ภาพในความฝัน ของสเตฟาน หนุ่มขี้อายที่มีจินตนาการกว้างไกล แค่คิดก็สนุกแล้ว
