ตัวเลข 007 ที่อยู่ท้ายชื่อของเจมส์ บอนด์ หมายถึงรหัสลับประจำตัวที่ใช้เรียกแทนตัวเขาในฐานะขอ งสายลับคนหนึ่ง โดยเลข 00 ที่นำหน้าเลข 7 อยู่นั้น ถือเป็นสัญลักษณ์ที่แจ้งให้ทราบว่า ตัวเขาเป็นสายลับที่ได้รับอนุญาตให้สามารถสังหารชีวิ ตผู้อื่นได้โดยไม่ผิดกฎหมาย[1] ซึ่งในประเด็นนี้ ได้มีนักวิเคราะห์บางคนแสดงทัศนะว่า เฟลมมิงน่าจะได้รับแรงบันดาลใจมาจากสายลับชาวอังกฤษผ ู้หนึ่งในช่วงศตวรรษที่ 16 ที่ได้ส่งสารลับมาถึงสมเด็จพระบรมราชินีนาถอลิซาเบธท ี่ 1 ด้วยรหัส 00 ซึ่งมีความหมายว่า สำหรับพระเนตรของพระองค์เท่านั้น (For Your Eyes Only)[2]
