คณะกรรมการที่ได้รับเชิญเข้าตัดสินจัดอันดับภาพยนตร์ ที่มีลักษณะเฉพาะตัวในการสร้างและการนำเสนอ ที่จัดโดยสถานีโทรทัศน์ช่อง 4 ได้พิจารณาคัดเลือกภาพยนตร์เก่า 50 เรื่อง ที่อยู่ในข่ายดังกล่าว ภาพยนตร์ที่อยู่ในอันดับต้นๆ รวมทั้ง City of God เรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับแหล่งชุมชนแออัดแห่งเมืองริโอเดเจ ไนโร กับเรื่อง 2001: Space Odyssy และ Donnie Darko ด้วย
ภาพยนตร์ Apocalypse Now สร้างขึ้นตามเค้าโครงนวนิยายเรื่อง Heart of Darkness ของโจเซฟ คอนราด นำแสดงโดย มาร์ติน ชีน มาร์ลอน แบรนโด และ โรเบิร์ต ดูวัล ถูกเสนอเข้าชิงรางวัลออสการ์ประจำปี 2522 แต่ก็เผชิญกับปัญหามากมาย ตั้งแต่มาร์ติน ชีน เกิดโรคหัวใจกำเริบกระทันหัน หรือ คอปโปลา เองก็ปวดหัวกับงบการสร้างที่บานปลาย
