ยาจกซูเดิมทีเป็นลูกเศรษฐี แต่เพราะความไม่เอาไหนของตนเองทำให้ต้องกลายมาเป็นขอ ทาน อาซูถือว่าตนเป็นคนรวยจึงใช้ชีวิตอย่างสำราญไปวันๆ แม้จะเก่งในทักษะการต่อสู้แต่ก็อ่านหนังสือไม่ออก อาซูไปหลงรักผู้หญิงคนหนึ่งถึงขั้นขอนางแต่งงาน แต่นางมีเงื่อนไขว่าเขาต้องเป็นผู้ชนะในการสอบแข่งขั นชิงตำแหน่งจอหงวนบู๊ ซึ่งอาซูก็ทำสำเร็จแต่โดนจับได้ว่าโกงการสอบข้อเขียน ทำให้ฮ่องเต้ทรงกริ้วมากจึงมีรับสั่งให้ยึดทรัพย์สิน ทั้งหมด ตระกูลขอลอาซูจึงต้องกลายมาเป็นยาจก อาซูได้เป็นสมาชิกพรรคกระยาจกจึงเริ่มต้นเรียนหนังสื อ ทำให้ต่อมาได้ขึ้นเป็นหัวหน้าพรรคกระยาจกอีกทั้งยังไ ด้ช่วยเหลือฮ่องเต้ให้ พ้นเงื้อมมือกบฎจนได้รับความดีความชอบ ฮ่องเต้พระราชทานเกียรติยศและเงินทองคืนแก่อาซู แต่เขากลับเลือกที่จะเป็นยาจกซูเหมือนเดิม
