Breaking Bad เล่าเรื่องชีวิตของ วอลเตอร์ ไวต์ ครูสอนวิชาเคมีชั้นมัธยมที่แสนธรรมดา ซึ่งกลายเป็นพ่อค้ายาผู้อำมหิตหลังพบว่าตัวเองกำลังป ่วยเป็นมะเร็งในขณะที่ อายุเข้าเลข 5 และแทบจะไม่เหลือเงินอยู่ในธนาคารเลย ซึ่งถือเป็นผลงานที่มีส่วนผสมของทั้งเนื้อเรื่องอันน ่าตื่นเต้น, การแสดงอันยอดเยี่ยม และงานภาพที่ดี ในการเล่าเรื่องความเปลี่ยนแปลงของชายธรรมดา ๆ ที่ค่อย ๆ กลายเป็นตัวแสบ ด้วยความหวังที่ว่าเขาจะสามารถหาเงินก้อนใหญ่ก้อนสุด ท้ายทิ้งไว้ให้ครอบครัว ก่อนที่จะจากโลกนี้ไป แต่เมื่อเรื่องราวพัฒนาไปเรื่อย ๆ แผนการของ ไวต์ ก็บานปลายไปไกล จนควบคุมไม่อยู่

หนึ่งในองค์ประกอบสำคัญของ Breaking Bad คือการฉากหลังของเรื่อง ซึ่งอยู่ในนิวเม็กซิโกที่ค่อนข้างดิบเถื่อน และแตกต่างโดยสิ้นเชิงกับซีรีส์ส่วนใหญ่ที่มักจะเสนอ ภาพเมืองใหญ่อันแออัด พร้อมด้วยเหล่านักแสดงที่ดูสมจริงสมจัง ไม่มีดาราหล่อสวยมาเรียกแขกดึงดูดคนดู ในเรื่องราวซึ่งไม่มีสีขาวจัดหรือดำจัด แต่เป็นโลกสีเทาที่ความดีและความเลวแทบไม่สามารถแยกอ อกจากกันได้

แม้จะมีความเห็นเกี่ยวกับตอนจบของ Breaking Bad ออกไปในหลาย ๆ ทาง แต่แฟน ๆ ส่วนใหญ่ก็พอใจกับบทสรุปของเรื่องราวต่าง ๆ ที่ดำเนินมา 5 ปีเต็ม จะมีก็แต่เรื่องโฆษณาจำนวนมากที่ฉายคั่นอยู่ตลอดการแ พร่ภาพของตอนจบเท่านั้น ที่หลายคนคิดว่าเยอะเกินไปหน่อย แต่ก็น่าจะทำให้ AMC ทำเงินได้อย่างมหาศาลจากค่าโฆษณาที่ว่ากันว่าสูงถึง 250,000 เหรียญฯ ต่อ 30 วินาทีกันเลยทีเดียว

แม้จะปิดฉากไปอย่างสวยงาม แต่อันที่จริงแล้วสถานีโทรทัศน์ AMC ต้องเดิมพันกับ Breaking Bad สูงไม่น้อย เพราะกระแสของซีรีส์ในฤดูกาลแรก ๆ ยังไม่ค่อยจะร้อนแรงนัก แต่คนดูก็เพิ่มขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ ในทุกปี ซึ่งคาดกันว่าในตอนสุดท้ายของซีรีส์ฤดูกาลที่ 5 ที่เป็นฤดูกาลสุดท้าย น่าจะมีตัวเลขผู้ชมสูงถึง 10 ล้านคน
