นิค พูโลฟสกี้ (คลิ้นต์ อีสต์วู้ด) คือตำรวจที่เพิ่งเข้ามาทำงานในหน่วยงานปราบปรามการโจ รกรรมรถยนต์ และตลอดช่วงชีวิตของเขาที่ผ่านมาก็ไม่ได้ทำอะไรดีสัก อย่าง จนกระทั่งเขาได้ค้นพบว่าชายชาวเยอรมันนามว่า สตรอม (ราอูล จูเลีย) ซึ่งเป็นผู้อยู่เบื้องหลังการขโมยรถยนต์และดำเนินธุร กิจอู่ซ่อมรถผิดกฎหมาย เขาจึงรู้ว่าต้องเข้ามาทำคดีนี้ให้ได้ หลังจากที่เพื่อนคู่หูถูกฆ่าตาย คดีก็ถูกโอนมายังแผนกปล้น/ฆาตกรรม นิคจึงถูกถอดออกจากการทำคดีนี้ไป และยังต้องทำงานคู่กับเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจนักสืบหน้าใหม ่นามว่า เดวิด แอกเกอร์แมน (ชาร์ลี ชีน) ซึ่งในขณะที่สืบคดีนี้ร่วมกันนั้น นิคก็รู้สึกว่าสตรอมกำลังพุ่งเป้ามาที่เขาเพียงคนเดี ยว ในขณะที่แอกเกอร์แมนผู้ซึ่งทำงานในสไตล์ของการ เล่นตามกฎเกณฑ์ แต่เขาก็กำลังสับสนกับตัวเองมากว่าต้องทำงานอย่างไรก ับคู่หูพันธ์ระห่ำแตกอย่างนิค... และเขาก็ต้องเผชิญหน้ากับอดีตในวัยเด็กที่ตามหลอกหลอ นเขาอยู่อีกด้วย
