เป็นซีรีส์แนวโรแมนซ์ ดราม่า ที่แต่งขึ้นโดยอ้างอิงจากข้อมูลจริงบางส่วน โดย ตัวละครหลักของเรื่อง ชินซาอิมดัง เป็นบุคคลสำคัญในประวัติศาสตร์เกาหลี และชิ้นงานศิลป์ต่างๆที่อ้างอิงถึงมีอยู่จริง แต่เนื้อหาเรื่องราวดราม่าความรักพระนางในเรื่องเป็น การแต่งเติมมาเพื่อความบันเทิง
ซีรีส์เรื่องนี้ได้บอกเล่าเรื่องเหตุการณ์ของสองภพคู ่ขนาน คือ ยุคปัจจุบัน และ ยุคโชซอน โดยตัวเชื่อมโยงที่ร้อยเรื่องถึงกัน ก็คือ โบราณวัตถุล้ำค่าของชาติชิ้นหนึ่ง ที่เป็นภาพจิตรกรรมในยุคโชซอน ชื่อภาพว่า กึมกังซันโด ซึ่งเป็นภาพวาดภูเขากึมกังซาน (ซาน หรือซัน แปลว่าภูเขา กึมกังในปัจจุบันอยู่ทางตอนใต้ของเกาหลี มีสวนกึมกังที่เป็นจุดท่องเที่ยวสำคัญของเมืองพูซานด ้วย)
อียองแอ นางเอกของเรา รับบทเป็น ชินซาอิมดัง ในยุคโชซอน และ รับบทเป็น ศาสตราจารย์ซอจียุน ในยุคปัจจุบัน ทั้งสองตัวละครจะเกี่ยวพันกับภาพวาดดังกล่าวในคนละเร ื่องราว กล่าวคือ ภาพกึมกังซันโดมีความสำคัญเป็นตายต่อชีวิตของซอจียุน และมีความสำคัญทางใจ เป็นสัญลักษณ์ความรักของซาอิมดัง
