เมื่อถึงเวลาเข้านอน เด็กๆ ทั่วโลกต่างรู้ดีว่า เมื่อพ่อแม่ของพวกเขา พาพวกเขาขึ้นเตียงนอน และปิดไฟมืดเมื่อไหร่ สัตว์ประหลาดที่ซ่อนตัวอยู่หลังประตูตู้เสื้อผ้าจะกร ะโดดออกมาทันที แต่สิ่งที่พวกเขาไม่เคยรู้เลยก็คือ ที่สัตว์ประหลาดเหล่านี้ต้องหลอกให้เด็กๆ กลัว ไม่ใช่แค่เรี่องล้อเล่นส่วนตัว มันคืองานของพวกสัตว์ประหลาดทั้งหลาย มอนสโทรโพลิส คือบ้านของเหล่าประชากรสัตว์ประหลาดที่มีทุกรูปร่างแ ละทุกขนาด แหล่งพลังงานหลักของพวกมันได้มาจากเสียงกรีดร้องของม นุษย์ และโรงงานที่ผลิตเสียงกรีดร้องขนาดใหญ่ที่สุด ก็คือทีมสัตว์ประหลาดแถวหน้าของโรงงาน จะเดินทางสู่โลกมนุษย์โดยผ่านประตูตู้เสื้อผ้าในยามค ่ำคืน ก็เพื่อหลอกเด็กๆ ให้ตกใจกลัว และเก็บเสียงกรีดร้องของพวกเขาเอาไว้ ที่ทำให้งานนี้ยากมากก็คือความจริงที่ว่า สัตว์ประหลาด เหล่านี้เชื่อว่าพวกเด็กๆ คือของมีพิษ และถ้าไปแตะโดนตัวเด็กเข้าจะนำมาซึ่งหายนะ
