เรื่องย่อ

ที่เพรสซิ ดิโอ , ฐานทัพของกองทัพบกที่ซานฟรานซิสโก เจ้าหน้าที่สารวัตรทหารหญิงกำลังจะหมดกะจากหน้าที่จน กระทั่งเธอเข้าไปใน ประตูของคลับนายทหารแห่งหนึ่งเพื่อเข้าไปสืบสวน แต่เธอถูกยิงเสียชีวิตโดยฝีมือของมือปืนผู้ที่บุกเข้ าไปในนั้นซึ่งกำลังหลบ หนีออกมาและขับรถหลบหนีไป จนกระทั่งถูกตามล่าโดยทางตำรวจซานฟรานฯ และหน่วยสารวัตรทหารประจำฐานทัพฯ โดยมีเจย์ ออสติน (มาร์ค ฮาร์มอน) , ตำรวจนักสืบแห่งกรมตำรวจซานฟรานซิสโกเป็นผู้ทำการสืบ สวนร่วมกับพันโทอลัน คาร์ดเวลล์ (ฌอน คอนเนอรี่) , ผู้ซึ่งเคยเป็นผู้บังคับบัญชาของเจย์ที่ฐานทัพเพรสซิ ดิโอมาก่อน ซึ่งดูเหมือนว่าออสตินเคยทำการจับกุมนายทหารคนหนึ่งม าก่อนและออสตินก็ไม่ยอม ทำตามขั้นตอนที่ถูกต้อง จึงเป็นเหตุที่คาร์ดเวลล์ไม่ยอมรับการกระทำของออสติน เลย และเหยื่อที่ถูกฆ่าก็คืออดีตคู่หูของออสตินอีกด้วย ทำให้ทั้ง คาร์ดเวลล์ และ ออสติน ต้องมาร่วมงานกันอย่างเสียมิได้ทั้งๆที่ไม่ชอบขี้หน้ ากันเท่าไร ที่ร้ายกว่านั้น คือ ออสตินดันไปปิ๊งลูกสาวคนสวย (แม๊ก ไรอัน) ของ คาร์ดเวลล์ เข้าด้วยสิ
