tokyo ghoul หรือ ผีปอบโตเกียว (จะผีดิบหรืออะไรก็ช่างเถอะ) เป็นเรื่องราวแนวสยองขวัญ ดาร์คแฟนตาซี เกี่ยวกับ “กูล” หรือผีปอบกินคนที่ผู้คนต่างหวาดกลัวเพราะตัวตนของพวก มันนั้นเป็นปริศนา
“คาเนกิ เคน” นักศึกษามหาลัยผู้ซึ่งสงสัยในตัวตนของเหล่ากูลได้พบก ับ “ริเสะ” นางเอก (?) ผู้ชอบอ่านหนังสือเหมือนกันในคาเฟ่ร้านประจำ ทั้งสองคนเข้ากันได้ดีมากจนกระทั่งคืนนึง เขาก็ต้องเผชิญกับสิ่งที่จะเปลี่ยนแปลงชีวิตเขาไปตลอ ดกาล
