".....แอนดรูว์ ไวค์ นักเขียนนิยายสืบสวนชื่อดังเชิญชู้รักของภรรยาตนเองม าที่แมนชั่น ผู้ชายคนนั้นคือ ไมโล่ ทินเดิล หนุ่มรูปงามอาชีพนักแสดงที่กำลังตกงาน ทินเดิลเดินทางมาหาไวค์เพื่อขอให้ไวค์เซ็นใบหย่าให้แ ก่"แม็กกี้"ภรรยาสาวสวย ทินเดิลกับแม็กกี้จะได้แต่งงานกัน แต่ไวค์ไม่ยอม เขาอ้างว่า แม็กกี้เป็นผู้หญิงสุรุ่ยสุร่ายตามประสาสาวไฮโซ ถ้าเขาปล่อยให้แม็กกี้แต่งงานกับทินเดิล ทินเดิลจะถูกถลุงจนหมดตัว เมื่อนั้น แม็กกี้ก็จะกลับมาหาไวค์อีก ซึ่งไวค์ไม่ต้องการให้เป็นแบบนั้น ไวค์จึงยื่นข้อเสนอให้ทินเดิล ให้ชายหนุ่มแสดงละครปล้นสร้อยเพชรราคาหนึ่งล้านปอนด์ จากตู้เซฟภายในบ้าน เพื่อจะได้เอาสร้อยไปขาย นำเงินมาปรนเปรอแม็กกี้ แม็กกี้จะได้ไม่กลับมากวนใจไวค์อีก แต่นี่เป็นเพียงเสี้ยวหนึ่งของเรื่องราวทั้งหมดเท่าน ั้น....."

Sleuth 2007 เป็นหนังรีเมคจากของเก่าในปี 1972 ที่ได้นักแสดงแอคติ้งเทพๆอย่าง Michael Caine มาร่วมแสดงนำ กับ Jude Law ที่ทั้งกำกับและแสดงเอง เป็นเรื่องที่2 แล้วที่ Jude Law มารับบทเดียวกับที่ Michael Caine เล่นไว้ในอดีต หนังเรื่องแรกคือ Alfie ที่สร้างในปี 1966 ในตอนนั้น Michael Caine รับบทเป็น Alfie หนุ่มเจ้าสำราญ พอถึงปี 2004 Jude Law เองก็เข้ามารับบทเดียวกัน…. สำหรับ หนังเรื่อง Sleuth แตกต่างกันเพียงว่า นำมาสร้างใหม่แบบเปลี่ยนแนวจากของเก่าเกือบ 360องศา เพื่อให้หนังมีแบบฉบับเป็นของตัวเองมากที่สุด แต่ยังคงความเป็น Sleuthไว้ด้วยการมีนักแสดงเพียงสองคนทั้งเรื่องไว้เห มือนเดิม

Michael Caine ที่เราเห็นใน Sleuth ปี 1972 เขารับบทเป็น Milo แต่พอมาถึง Sleuth 2007 เขากลับก้าวเข้ามารับบทเป็น Andrew หนังเรื่องเดียวกันแต่สลับขั้วคาแรคเตอร์กันไปตามยุค สมัย

Andrew (Michael Caine) คือ ชายแก่นักเขียนนิยายที่ประสบความสำเร็จโด่งดังและรวย ล้นฟ้าแต่กลับต้องอยู่ โดดเดี่ยวในคฤหาสน์สุดทันสมัยไฮเทคเพราะเมียทิ้ง

Milo (Jude Law) คือ ชู้รักของ Maggie …มีอาชีพเป็นนักแสดงหนุ่มแน่นสุดหล่อชาวอิตาเลียน ทว่าไส้แห้งถังแตกถึงขีดสุด
