เม็ก อัลต์แมน (โจดี้ ฟอสเตอร์) แม่ม่ายที่เพิ่งผ่านการหย่าร้างมาหมาดๆ และลูกสาวของเธอ ซาราห์ (คริสเตน สจ๊วร์ต) ย้ายไปอยู่ในบ้านหลังหนึ่งในนิวยอร์ก ซึ่งมีห้องลับที่ถูกสร้างขึ้น โดยเจ้าของคนก่อน ผู้เป็นมหาเศรษฐีที่มีความคิดประหลาด ห้องลับดังกล่าว ประกอบขึ้นจากกำแพงคอนกรีตสี่ด้าน มีระบบโทรศัพท์ที่ฝังอยู่ใต้ดิน และไม่เชื่อมต่อกับระบบสายเมนของบ้าน ระบบระบายอากาศอิสระ และจอมอนิเตอร์สอดแนม ที่ติดตั้งเอาไว้เกือบทุกมุมของบ้าน ทุกอย่างได้รับการปกป้องจากโลกภายนอก โดยประตูเหล็กอย่างหนาที่ไม่อาจพังได้ เม็กกับซาราห์ไม่เคยคาดคิดเลยว่าจะต้องใช้ห้องลับนี้ จนกระทั่งวันหนึ่งพวกเธอต้องเล่นเกม แมวจับหนู ที่แสนอันตราย กับผู้บุกรุกสามนาย ได้แก่ เบิร์นแฮม (ฟอเรสต์ วิเทเกอร์) , ราอูล (ดไวต์ ยัวแคม) และ จูเนียร์ (จาเร็ด ลีโต้) เมื่อพวกเขาบุกรุกบ้านของเธออย่างรุนแรง แต่ห้องลับนี้ กลับกลายเป็นจุดสำคัญ เพราะสิ่งที่กลุ่มผู้บุกรุกต้องการ ..อยู่ภายในห้องลับนี้เอง และผู้บุกรุกจะไม่มีวันหยุด จนกว่าจะได้เข้าไปในห้องลับดังกล่าว !
