เหตุการณ์ สยองโลก เริ่มขึ้นที่ ฉากป่าดงดิบในขตร้อนชื้นแถบบราซิลที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ไปด้ วยทรัพยากรธรรมชาติอัน ล้ำค่า ทีมถ่ายภาพยนต์สารคดีกลุ่มหนึ่ง กำลังมุ่งหน้าเข้ามาไร้ซึ่งอาวุธใดๆนอกจากกล้องถ่ายภ าพยนตร์สารคดี อุปกรณ์บันทึกเสียงและจิตใจที่มองโลกในแง่ดี ผู้นำทีมในครั้งนี้ คือ นักมนุษย์วิทยาหนุ่ม สตีเวน เคล (เอริค สโตลท์ซ) พร้อมด้วยทีมงานครบทีมได้แก่ ผู้กำกับสารคดีสาวแกร่งเทอร์รี่ ฟลอเรส (เจนนิเฟอร์ โลเปซ) ตากล้องผิวหมึกอารมณ์ดี แดนนี่ (ไอซ์ คู้บ) ช่างเสียงหนุ่มใจร้อน แกรี่ (โอเวน วิลสัน) ผู้จัดการกองถ่าย เดนิส คาลเบิร์ก (แครี่ วูห์เรอร์) และผู้ดำเดินรายการ วอร์เรน เวสทริดจ์ (โจนาธาน ไฮด์) ทั้งหมดร่วมโดยสารบนเรือลำเดียวกัน โดยการนำทางของกัปตันเมทีโอ (วิเซนต์ คาสเตส ลาโนส์) ผจญภัยเข้ามายังสายน้ำกลางป่าลึกเพื่อที่จะค้นหาชนเผ ่าพื้น เมืองอินเดีย นโบราณเผ่าชิริชามาอันลึกลับ
