เรื่องย่อ
คิม จุนชิก เป็นคนยากคนจนแต่นิสัยสุภาพบุรุษลูกผู้ชาย ฮาเซกาวะ ทัตสุโอะ เป็นผู้รากมากดีแต่นิสัยไม่ค่อยดีสมสกุลรุนชาติสักเท ่าไร คิม จุนชิก ซึ่งมีพ่อเป็นคนรับใช้ในจวนของปู่ทัตสุโอะที่มีตำเเห น่งเป็นนายทหารญี่ปุ่นระดับผู้บังคับบัญชาระดับสูงคน หนึ่งที่ประจำการอยู่ในเกาหลี สถานะของ คิม จุนชิก เลยเป็นเพียงนายน้อยกับบ่าวรับใช้ของ ทัตสุโอะ แต่สิ่งหนึ่งที่เหมือนกันคือ ทั้ง 2 เป็นนักวิ่งฝีเท้าดี ทั้งคู่จึงกลายเป็นคู่แข่งกัน วิ่งแข่งพลัดกันแพ้ชนะเรื่อยมา เวลาผ่านไป ทัตสุโอะผู้เติบโตมาภายใต้อิทธิพลการเป็นนายทหารของค ุณปู่เลือกที่จะตามรอยคุณปู่มากกว่าการเป็นแพทย์อย่า งที่พ่อหวัง

ด้วยความที่สมัยนั้นเกาหลีโดนญี่ปุ่นยึดประเทศ และญี่ปุ่นก็บังคับไม่ให้เกาหลีส่งตัวแทนไปวิ่งแข่งร ะดับโอลิมปิก แต่มีชายผู้หนึ่งได้หาช่องทางแล้วหยิบยื่น โอกาสมาให้ คนเกาหลีร่วมถึงจุนชิกซึ่งขณะนั้นจุนชิกเป็นเพียงคนร ับจ้างวิ่งรถลากส่งคน จึงมีโอกาสได้การแข่งขันมาราธอนรอบคัดเลือกสู่โอลิมป ิก และในการแข่งขัน จุนชิก ต้องชนะทัตสึโอะ แต่จุนชิกกลับถูกโกงทำให้ เกิดการจราจลขึ้น และจุนชิกและพวกเกาหลีที่ก่อจราจลถูกส่งไปเป็นทหารที ่ค่ายญี่ปุ่นเพื่อสู้กับโซเวียตและ ทัตสุโอะ ที่มีตำแหน่งเป็นผู้พันมาคุมที่ค่ายและกดขี่ จุนชิก และพวกเกาหลีอย่างหนัก และให้ตายเพื่อองค์จักรพรรดิและประเทศชาติญี่ปุ่น

แต่โซเวียตในสงครามโลกตอนนั้น กองกำลังของญี่ปุ่นไม่สามารถต่อกรได้กับ โซเวียตที่มีรถถังมากกว่า 50 คันได้ทำให้ค่ายของญี่ปุ่นแตก โซเวียตได้จับพวก จุนชิก และ ทัตสุโอะ ไปเป็นเชลยสงคราม เส้นทางมาราธอนสายสงคราม ของจุนชิกและทัตสุโอะจึงได้เริ่มต้นขึ้นในฐานะเชลยสง ครามของโซเวียต จากโนโมฮานประเทศจีน สู่สหภาพโซเวียตเยอรมัน ในวันดีเดย์ที่ชายฝั่งนอร์มังดี และบทสรุป เส้นชัยของเขาทั้ง 2 คน
