เรื่องราวเริ่มต้นในปี 1944 นิโคไล อีวูสกี้ ทหารรัสเซียที่ถูกจับเป็นเชลยในค่ายกักกันของเยอรมนี ได้รับมอบหมายให้ซ่อมซากรถถัง T-34 เพื่อใช้ในการซ้อมรบได้ รวมทั้งหา “พลขับประจำรถถัง” เขาได้เลือกผู้ช่วยเป็นเชลยทหารรัสเซียอีกสามคน แต่ด้วยความฉลาดและความแค้นต่อเพื่อนทหารที่ตายไปนั้ น พวกเขาจึงได้นำรถถัง T-34 ที่ผ่านการซ่อมแล้วเป็นเครื่องมือในการหนีจากค่ายเชล ยและนำมาสู้รบกับพวกเยอรมัน
