".....ยุคทองสมัยแรกของหนังล้อเลียน มาเกิดเอาช่วงปี 1970 ด้วยฝีมือของชายชื่อ Mel Brooks ที่เติบโตจากงานเขียนบท (ตัวละครหนึ่งที่สร้างสรรค์จากมันสมองของเขาคือ แม็กซ์เวลล์ สมาร์ท แห่งซีรี่ส์สุดฮิต Get Smart และตอนนี้ก็ถูกสร้างเป็นหนังใหญ่ นำแสดงโดย Steve Carrell) ก่อนจะผันตัวมากำกับ

ผลงานอันโด่งดังของลุงคนนี้ก็คือ Blazing Saddles และ Young Frankenstein ที่ออกสู่สายตาผู้ชมในปี 1974 ทั้งคู่ เรื่องแรกนั้นล้อหนังคาวบอยซะขำกระจาย ส่วนเรื่องหลังก็เอาตำนานผีดิบแฟรงเกนสไตน์มาเล่าใหม ่ในแบบขากรรไกรค้างแล้ว ค้างอีก จนนักวิจารณ์ยกให้ทั้งสองเรื่องเป็นหนังตลกคลาสสิกตล อดกาล

แนวทางของ Brooks ถือว่าเป็นการให้กำเนิดหนังตลกล้อเลียนอย่างเป็นทางก าร เพราะหลังจากสองเรื่องนี้ดัง ลุงแกก็ขยันปั้นเรื่องออกมาล้อ ไม่ว่าจะ Silent Movie (1976) ที่เอาสไตล์หนังเงียบมาล้อ แสดงถึงความอัจฉริยะของ Brooks ที่ทำให้คนขำโดยไม่ต้องใช้คำพูดก็ยังได้ ตามด้วย High Anxiety (1977) ที่ผมชอบสุดขีดเลยครับ เป็นการเอาผลงานคลาสสิกของ Alfred Hitchcock มาทำใหม่ พล็อตหลักว่าด้วยตัวเอก ดร.ริชาร์ด ธอร์นไดค์ (Brooks เล่นเอง) จิตแพทย์ที่กลัวความสูง (ล้อ Vertigo แล้วนะครับ) ที่ต้องมารักษาการในโรงพยาบาลบ้าที่มีลับลมคมใน (The Man Who Knew Too Much) ซ้ำยังต้องหนีการตามล่าจากนกที่ไล่อึรดเขา (The Birds) และ พนักงานโรงแรมที่ประทุษร้ายเขาขณะอาบน้ำ (Psycho) ... หนังยังมีความบ้าอีกเยอะครับ ใครเคยผ่านตาหนังของ Hitchcock มาก่อน ได้ขำปางตายกับหนังเรื่องนี้แน่นอน ผมนี่ก็ชอบขนาดตามล่ามาเก็บเลยครับ

Brooks เลยถือได้ว่าเป็นผู้กำกับหนังล้อเลียนเจ้าแรกที่ทำหน ังออกมาต่อเนื่องและ สนุกอย่างยอดเยี่ยม แนวทางของเขาก็คือต้นแบบขนานแท้สำหรับ Spoof Movie ทั้งหลาย กฎสี่ประการแรกของหนังล้อเลียนก็ได้เขานี่แหละเป็นผู ้วางรากฐานมันขึ้น มา...."
