Breakdown ฅนเบรกแตก สองสามีภรรยา เจฟฟ์ (เคิร์ต รัสเซล) และ เอมี เทเลอร์ (เคธลีน ควิ) ต้องขับรถไปยังแคลิฟอร์เนีย ระหว่างการเดินทาง ทั้งสองกลับไปหลงติดอยู่กลางทะเลทราย ที่แทบจะไม่มีผู้คนหรือบ้านเรือนให้เห็น ต่อมาเอมีได้ติดรถไปกับคนขับรถบรรทุกท่าทางเป็นมิตร เพื่อไปขอความช่วยเหลือผู้คน ที่ร้านอาหารข้างทาง ทว่าหลังจากเวลาผ่านไปได้พักใหญ่ เอมีก็ยังไม่กลับมา เจฟฟ์จึงเริ่มกังวล เพราะไม่ว่าคนในร้านอาหารหรือแม้แต่คนขับรถบรรทุก ซึ่งเป็นคนพาเอมี่ไปด้วย กลับยืนยันว่าไม่เคยเห็นหรือรู้จักภรรยาของเขามาก่อน เจฟฟ์จึงต้องเร่งตามหาตัวภรรยาของเขา แล้วใครบ้างที่เขาควรไว้ใจ
