หนังประวัติศาสตร์จากนอร์เวย์เรื่องนี้สร้างจากเรื่อ งจริงที่เกิดขึ้นในปี ค.ศ.1947 เมื่อ Thor Heyerdahl นักชาติพันธุ์วรรณา/นักสำรวจหนุ่มและพวกพ้องรวมหกคน ได้ตัดสินใจต่อแพแบบชาวอินคาโบราณเพื่อเดินทางข้ามมห าสมุทรแปซิฟิกจากอเมริกาใต้ไปยังหมู่เกาะโพลินีเซียอ ันเป็นระยะทางกว่า 6,900 กิโลเมตรเพื่อพิสูจน์ทฤษฏีของเขาให้โลกได้ประจักษ์ว่ าที่แท้จริงชาวโพลินีเชี่ยนไม่ได้มีบรรพบุรุษเป็นชาว เอเซียอย่างที่นักวิชาเกินส่วนใหญ่ในยุคนั้นเข้าใจกั น หากแต่เป็นชาวอินคาที่ล่องแพเดินทางอพยพมาจากทวีปอเม ริกาใต้ต่างหากล่ะ
