อย่างตั้งตัวไม่ติด กระแทกกับซากหักพัง หรือไม่ก็ถูกซัดลงทะเล เมื่อน้ำทะลักเข้ามาทางหน้าต่างที่แตกออก
โครงสร้างถล่ม ท่อแก๊สแตกและจุดเพลิงให้ลุกไหม้ ไฟฟ้าดับ เป็นเหตุให้บริเวณส่วนใหญ่ของเรือตกอยู่ในความมืด และสับสนอลหม่าน
หลังเหตุการณ์ ผู้รอดชีวิตหลายร้อยคนต้องเบียดเสียดกันอยู่ในห้องโถ ง ที่ไม่ได้รับความเสียหายแต่ทว่าจมอยู่ใต้น้ำ
พวกเขาควรอยู่ด้วยกันตามคำสั่งของกัปตัน และรอคอยความช่วยเหลือ
หนุ่มนักพนันมืออาชีพ ดิแลน จอห์นส (โจช ลูคัส) ต้องการที่จะทดสอบความเป็นต่อโดยลำพัง โดยไม่สนใจคำสั่ง
เขาเตรียมตัวหาทางออกจากห้องโถงสู่ความปลอดภัยด้วยตน เอง แต่กลับถูกถ่วงโดยเด็กชายวัยแปดขวบ โคเนอร์ (จิมมี่ เบนเน็ตต์)

ที่กำลังตามหาตัวลูกสาว เจนนิเฟอร์ (เอ็มมี่ รอสซัม) กับคู่หมั้นของเธอ คริสเตียน (ไมค์ โวเกล) ซึ่งก่อนหน้านี้ไม่ถึงชั่วโมง
คู่รักหนุ่มสาวไม่กล้าพอที่จะบอกกับพ่อว่าได้หมั้นกั นแล้ว แต่กลับต้องเผชิญกับความท้าทายที่ยิ่งไปกว่าในตอนนี้
ด้วยความระแวดระวังที่จะผูกมิตร ดิแลนไม่เต็มใจนัก ที่จะต้องเป็นผู้นำผู้รอดชีวิตกลุ่มเล็กขึ้นจากใต้ท้ องเรือ
ในบรรดาคนที่เลือกร่วมทาง มากกว่านั่งคอยอยู่ข้างล่างนั้น รวมไปถึง ผู้ลักลอบขึ้นเรือขี้กังวล เอเลน่า กอนซาเลซ (มิอา แมสโตร)
ชายหนุ่มผู้คิดสั้น ริชาร์ด เนลสัน (ริชาร์ด เดรย์ฟัส) ซึ่งได้ค้นพบความตั้งใจที่จะมีชีวิตอยู่ต่ออีกครั้ง
และบริกรหนุ่ม มาร์โก้ (เฟรดดี้ โรดิกูเอซ) ที่มีความรู้เรื่องโครงสร้างของเรือ ในความตั้งใจที่จะสู้เพื่อหาทางขึ้นสู่ผิวน้ำ
พวกเขาทุกคนร่วมออกเดินทางผ่านความวกวน ในซากเรือที่กำลังจมลงไปเรื่อยๆ ความผูกพันก่อตัวอย่างรวดเร็ว
