หนังเล่าเรื่องราวของ แฟรงค์ (โรเบิร์ต เดอ นีโร) ชายแก่ซึ่งสูญเสียภรรยาไป และมีความรู้สึกว่าต้องรับผิดชอบดูแลลูกๆแทนภรรยา แฟรงค์เฝ้ารอช่วงวันหยุดปลายปี แต่กลับต้องอยู่คนเดียวทั้งๆที่เป็นวันพิเศษ เพราะลูกๆของเขาไม่สามารถกลับมาเยี่ยม โดยแต่ละคนต่างมีเหตุผลที่ไม่สามารถเดินทางมาได้ แฟรงค์จึงตัดสินใจจะไปหาลูกๆแต่ละคนแทน ซึ่งเมื่อไปพบพวกเขาจึงทำให้ทราบว่าลูกๆแต่ละคนไม่ได ้สบายดีอย่างที่บอกไว้
