เรื่องราวเกิดขึ้นในปี ค.ศ. 2057 เมื่อพระอาทิตย์กำลังจะดับ และมนุษยชาติกำลังจะสูญพันธุ์ ความหวังในการอยู่รอดของโลกทั้งใบขึ้นอยู่กับ Icarus II ยานอวกาศที่มีลูกเรือชาย-หญิง 8 ชีวิต นำโดยกัปตันคาเนดะภาระกิจสำคัญของพวกเขาก็คือ การนำส่งอุปกรณ์นิวเคลียร์ที่ออกแบบเพื่อช่วยกระตุ้น พลังให้กับพระอาทิตย์ที่กำลังจะดับแสง
