ก่อนพายุเฮอร์ริเคนแคทรินาพัดถล่มนิวออร์ลีนส์ หญิงชรา เดซี (เคต บลันเชตต์) นอนอยู่บนเตียงที่โรงพยาบาล
มีลูกสาววัยผู้ใหญ่ของเธอ แคโรไลน์ (จูเลีย ออร์มอนด์) อยู่เคียงข้าง เดซี ขอให้ แคโรไลน์ ช่วยอ่านบันทึกส่วนตัวเล่มหนึ่งให้ฟัง
มันคือบันทึกส่วนตัวของ เบนจามิน บัตตัน (แบรด พิตต์) บันทึกส่วนตัวเล่มนั้นเล่าถึงชีวิตอันแปลกพิสดารของเ บนจามิน
ผู้ซึ่งมีอายุถอยย้อนกลับ เขาเกิดมามีร่างกายเสมือนคนชรา และป่วยเป็นโรคชราหลายต่อหลายโรค จนมีโอกาสเพียงน้อยนิดที่จะรอดชีวิต
ทว่าเขาก็รอดมาได้ และยิ่งเด็กลงเรื่อยๆ เมื่อกาลเวลาผ่านพ้นไป คุณยายของเดซีพักอาศัยอยู่ในสถานดูแลผู้สูงอายุแห่งห นึ่ง
เดซีได้พบเบนจามินครั้งแรกที่นั่น แม้จะแยกจากกันไปนานหลายปี แต่เดซีกับเบนจามินก็ยังคงติดต่อกันมาตลอด
และได้พบกันอีกครั้งในช่วงอายุขึ้นเลข 4 ซึ่งเป็นช่วงเวลาที่อายุของพวกเขาเหมาะเจาะตรงกันพอด ี
แคโรไลน์รู้สึกว่าเนื้อหาบางส่วนของบันทึกนั้นอ่านยา กยิ่ง โดยเฉพาะส่วนที่บอกเล่าถึงช่วงเวลาที่เบนจามินกับเดซ ีใช้เวลาอยู่ด้วยกัน
และเดซีแก่ชราลงเรื่อยๆ ตามธรรมชาติ ขณะที่เบนจามินดูอ่อนเยาว์ขึ้นทุกที!!!
