ในเขตพรมแดนระหว่างเกาหลีเหนือและเกาหลีใต้ที่เรียกว ่า DMZ หรือ JSA มีการพบศพทหารเกาหลีเหนือ 2 นายเสียชีวิต และเพื่อสอบสวนหาข้อเท็จจริง ทางการของทั้ง 2 ประเทศได้ส่ง พันตรีหญิง โซฟี อี.จีน (ลี ยองเอ) นายทหารหญิงลูกครึ่งเกาหลี-สวิสเซอร์แลนด์ มาสอบสวน โดยเน้นย้ำว่าต้องให้เป็นกลางอย่างแท้จริง แต่ทั้ง 2 ประเทศให้ข้อมูลพาดพิงกัน เมื่อเธอสืบจนพบความจริงบางอย่าง ซึ่งทำให้นายทหารที่เกี่ยวข้องต้องฆ่าตัวตาย และเมื่อยิ่งสืบสาวราวเรื่องเท่าไหร่ ก็พบเรื่องความราวมิตรภาพของคนจาก 2 สัญชาติที่ลึกๆ แล้วเขาก็คือพี่น้องร่วมชาติกันมาก่อน


Joint Security Area เป็นภาพยนตร์แอ๊คชั่นสัญชาติเกาหลี ที่ออกฉายในปี ค.ศ. 2000 ที่ว่าด้วยประเด็นเรื่องการรวมชาติของเกาหลีเหนือและ เกาหลีใต้ ที่เป็นประเด็นที่ถูกพูดถึงและอ่อนไหวอย่างมากในปัจจ ุบัน

เมื่อภาพยนตร์ออกฉายได้รับความสำเร็จอย่างดียิ่ง ทั้งรายได้และคำวิจารณ์ โดยสามารถทำรายได้ได้เป็นอันดับหนึ่งของประเทศ โดยสามารถทำได้เหนือกว่า Shiri ซึ่งเป็นภาพยนตร์แอ๊คชั่นเช่นกันเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1999 และได้รับรางวัลต่าง ๆ มากมาย อาทิ ภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยม Blue Dragon Film Awards 2000, ภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยม Grand Bell Awards 2001 และได้รับการเสนอชื่อชิงรางวัลภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยมในเท ศกาลภาพยนตร์เบอร์ลิน ในปี ค.ศ. 2001 อีกด้วย
