The Terminal บอกเล่าเรื่องราวของ วิกเตอร์ นาวอร์สกี้ (ทอม แฮงก์ส) ชาวยุโรปตะวันออกที่เดินทางมายังนิวยอร์กซิตี้ ในขณะที่บ้านเกิดของเขาเกิดเหตุร้ายขึ้นอย่างกระทันห ัน ในขณะที่เขาอยู่ระหว่างเดินทางบินลัดฟ้ามายังอเมริกา ทำให้วิกเตอร์ต้องติดแหง่ก อยู่ที่สนามบินนานาชาติจอห์น เอฟ เคนเนดี้ พร้อมกับพาสปอร์ตที่ไร้สังกัด เขาไม่ได้รับอนุญาตให้เข้าประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา วิกเตอร์จึงต้องใช้ชีวิตทั้งกลางวันและกลางคืน อยู่ในอาคารผู้โดยสาร ที่รอเปลี่ยนเครื่องภายในสนามบิน จนกว่าสงครามที่บ้านเกิดจะสิ้นสุดลง จากอาทิตย์เป็นเดือน วิกเตอร์พบว่าโลกใบย่อมของอาคารผู้โดยสาร เป็นโลกที่มีความซับซ้อน ที่เต็มไปด้วยเรื่องน่าหัวเราะ, ความใจดี, ความทะเยอทะยาน, ความเพลิดเพลิน, สถานะ, ความมีโชค หรือแม้กระทั่งความรัก กับพนักงานต้อนรับบนเครื่องบินสาวแสนสวยนามว่า เอมิเลีย (แคเธอรีน ซีต้า-โจนส์) แต่วิกเตอร์อยู่นานเสียจน แฟรงก์ ดิกซัน (สแตนลีย์ ทุคชี่) เจ้าหน้าที่ประจำสนามบินรู้สึกเบื่อหน่าย และเริ่มมองว่าวิกเตอร์คือปัญหา ที่เขาไม่สามารถควบคุมได้ และเป็นปัญหาที่เขาอยากกำจัดทิ้งที่สุด
