เรื่องย่อ

เมื่อคนกับสัตว์ล่องแพไปถึงชายฝั่งเม็กซิโก ริชาร์ด พาร์เกอร์ก็หนีเข้าป่าไปไม่มีใครได้พบเห็นอีกเลย เจ้าหน้าที่ชาวญี่ปุ่นที่ซักถามพายไม่ยอมเชื่อเรื่อง เล่าของเขา และกดดันให้พายบอก "ความจริง" หลังจากถูกบังคับขู่เข็ญอยู่หลายชั่วโมง พายจึงยอมเล่าเรื่องอีกเรื่อง ซึ่งประหลาดน้อยกว่า ธรรมดาสามัญมากกว่า ทว่าเรื่องไหนกันแน่ที่เป็นความจริง..

เรื่องราวของเด็กหนุ่มที่ชื่อ พาย พาเทล ชาวอินเดียอายุ 16 จากเมือง พอนดิเชอร์รี่ (Pondicherry) เขาได้โดยสารมากับเรือลำหนึ่งซึ่งได้บรรทุกสัตว์หลาย ชนิดจุดมุ่งหมายคือไป โตรอนโต แต่แล้วเรือลำนี้ก็ได้เกิดอับปางลงกลางทะเล พายเขาได้รอดชีวิตมาได้ ต้องหาหนทางที่จะกลับเข้าฝั่งโดยเรือชูชีพหนึ่งลำ ภายในเรือยังมี เสือโคร่งเบงกอล ลิงอุรังอุตัง, ม้าลาย และไฮยีนา เขาต้องทำอย่างไร
