เรื่องย่อ

ชาร์ลี แลง (นิโคลัส เคจ) ตำรวจนิวยอร์กซิตี้ ที่เรียบง่าย ใจดี วันหนึ่งหลังจากดื่มกาแฟเสร็จแล้ว เขาพบว่า ทั้งเนื้อทั้งตัวนอกจากล็อตเตอรี่แล้ว เขาไม่มีเงินที่จะทิป อิวาน บีอาซิ (บริดเจ็ท ฟอนดา) พนักงานเสิร์ฟสาวผู้มีหนี้สินล้นพ้น ได้เลย ในขณะที่อิวานทำใจแล้วว่า เธอจะไม่ได้ทิป แต่ชาร์ลีกลับออกปากสัญญาว่า ถ้าเขาถูกล็อตเตอรี่ เขาจะแบ่งเงินรางวัลครึ่งหนึ่งเป็นทิปให้เธอ และแล้วเขาก็ถูกรางวัลเข้าจริงๆ เป็นเงินถึง 4 ล้านเหรียญ เขาก็ทำตามสัญญา โดยแบ่งเงินครึ่งนึงให้เธอ และนี่คือ จุดเริ่มต้นของความรู้สึกดีๆของคนทั้งคู่ ทั้งคู่นำเงินบางส่วนออกช่วยเหลือสังคม และสร้างรอยยิ้มให้กับคนรอบข้าง แต่เรื่องจะแฮปปี้กว่านี้ถ้าชาร์ลีไม่บังเอิญมีภรรยาอยู่ก่อนแล้ว และอิวานเองก็มีสามีที่ถึงแยกกันอยู่ แต่ก็ยังไม่ได้หย่า ทั้งคู่จึงได้แต่เก็บความรู้สึกที่ดีต่อกันไว้ และพยายามเป็นเพื่อนที่ดีต่อกัน จนเมื่อภรรยาผู้ละโมบของชาร์ลี เกิดจะลุกขึ้นมาฟ้องหย่า และต้องการเงิน 2 ล้านเหรียญ ที่ชาร์ลีให้แก่อิวาน คืนทั้งหมด..
