เรื่องราวของ Jim Morison นักร้องนำจากวง Psychedelic rock สัญชาติอเมริกันอย่าง The Doors ที่ถูกนำมาถ่ายทอดลงแผ่นฟิล์ม หนังว่าด้วยชีวิตของ Jim Morison (Val Kilmer) ตั้งแต่วัยเด็ก ตามติดชีวิตของ Jim ในวัยนักศึกษาภาพยนตร์ที่ UCLA ซึ่งกำลังคบหาอยู่กับ Pamela Courson (Meg Ryan) แต่ด้วยพรสวรรค์ที่เขามีในการแต่งเพลงจึงทำให้วง The Doors เป็นที่รู้จักในวงกว้าง ชีวิตที่โชติช่วงของเขาดำดิ่งลงเพราะยาเสพติดและแอลก อฮอล์ จนกระทั่งเขาตายในวัย 27 ศพของเขาถูกพบในอ่างอาบน้ำ และไม่มีการพิสูจน์ถึงสาเหตุการตายที่แน่ชัด แม้ในทางกฎหมายจะระบุว่าหัวใจวายก็ตาม
