The Story
This 70s ghost drama began with Wang Jian (Lawrence Ng), a policeman, discovering neighbour Huang Yinggu&#146 s ghost (Nancy Sit) who has been trapped in a braid inside the police station for over ten years. Yinggu slowly reveals her story to Jian. She was wrongly sentenced to death for a crime she never committed. Yinggu&#146 s nephew Ye Jiasheng (Eddie Cheung) committed the murder and heartlessly set Yinggu up and made her his scapegoat.

Fate is always ironical and cruel, as Yinggu discovers (despite being a ghost!). She soon gets involved with Ye Jiasheng&#146 s affairs a second time. First, she manages to persuade her daughter Sun Minghua (Irene Wong) to break off with Ye Jiasheng&#146 s son Ye Zuguang (Raymond Cho), who is a flirt. Later, Ye Zuguang commits mass murder (locking people inside a building, preventing them escaping from the fire). Minghua is on the scene coincidentally and Jiasheng decides to frame her for the crime.

Wang Jian, by then a police inspector, is in charge of this case and knows Minghua is innocent and Zuguang involved. He tried his best to solve the case, to ensure justice for the dead and innocent (Minghua) but Ye Jiasheng, a senior police inspector, just seems to be too smart and cunning for Wang Jian to deal with. Ye Jiasheng is willing to do anything (framing Minghua, falsify evidence, killing witnesses) to get his son off the hook.

Yinggu&#146 s ghost finally meets face to face with the arrogant Ye Jiasheng, who isn&#146 t even scared and taunts Yinggu saying she ought to blame her sorry fate instead. Justice prevails however, Wang Jian finds new evidence to charge Zuguang with and by then a remorseful Zuguang finally confesses to the crime. Ye Jiasheng dies a sorry death from cancer and Huang Yinggu is assumed to have reincarnated. There is a sub-plot toward the end where Wang Jian&#146 s wife Baoyan (Maggie Cheung) accepts corruption money from Jian&#146 s superior who asks her to take on behalf of Jian. Wang Jian finds out and Baoyan decides to turn herself in. The show ends with Baoyan being released from jail and a family reunion with Wang Jian and family.

Character Reviews
Lawrence Ng (Wang Jian)
He looks a bit old to be playing the character who is supposed to be in his mid 20s. The best thing that Lawrence does in this series? It is the theme song. I love the song!

Nancy Sit (Huang Yinggu)
I find her ghost character to be very annoying throughout the series. This ghost is ridiculous &#150 (incredibly, the ghost can eat, do housework, walk in broad daylight, speak to humans and even use the phone!). Nancy Sit&#146 s acting is also exaggerated. Character wise, Huang Yinggu is a very kind soul she forgives Zuguang and even Jiasheng at the end.

Maggie Cheung Hoi Yee (Baoyan)
A good portrayal of a timid demure woman, the love interest and wife of Lawrence Ng in the series.

(If fans of Maggie Cheung feel strange at her decision to accept a supporting role, I read from the internet that she agreed to play the supporting role as a favour to the producer)
However her screen time isn&#146 t really very little, a bit like a joint second lead together with Nancy Sit.

Actually, the &#147 Baoyan&#148 character is really insignificant in the plot development of the show as the drama centered on the characters of Lawrence, Nancy and Eddie. But I feel that Baoyan&#146 s character adds a delicate human touch to the series that balances off nicely against Yinggu&#146 s sad grievances and Ye Jiasheng s evil nature.

Eddie Cheung (Ye Jiasheng)
The BEST performance of the show. Eddie Cheung gives a very convincing portrayal of the villain with his big physique and brooding looks. Ye Jiasheng is an arrogant man with a strong belief in himself. He believes in destiny and that he is so lucky now that he is simply untouchable. He believes that he is destined to be rich and successful and others like Nancy Sit, are destined to suffer.

The guy isn&#146 t afraid of anything (Nancy&#146 s ghost couldn&#146 t scare him), treats people shabbily and has a big ego. Ye Jiasheng s ending is sad &#150 he dies of cancer, his son is sentenced to death and his wife commits suicide. Toward the end where he is dying of cancer and sees all his evil deeds via flashback, I don&#146 t think he feels sorry for what he did, but just plain frightened. He simply refuses to accept his sorry fate. His final reason for his actions &#150 every man for himself. I feel that it would really be disappointing if he is to repent, it&#146 s better to end this way with the stubborn Ye Jiasheng never regretting his actions. Ye Jiasheng is quite a memorable villain

Raymond Cho (Ye Zuguang)
Ye Zuguang isn&#146 t really such a bad guy, just a person who happened to make the wrong decisions at the wrong time. The ending where he is sorry for his misdeeds and Nancy helping him face death is a good way to conclude and I feel sad for the character.

Baoyan&#146 s family (father, mother and sister) are just plain irritating and annoying (well done!). They get on my nerves every time they appear. I feel very sorry for Maggie&#146 s character. Also an annoying award to Nancy&#146 s grandmother and friend.

The ang-moh who plays the police head is just so familiar! He surely appears in every series that requires a male caucasian.

Thoughts
There&#146 s also a vicious cycle of retribution shown &#150 Ye Jiasheng framing Yinggu causing her to die, and then Ye Zuguang s involvement with her daughter Sun Minghua. They knew each other because of Ye Jiasheng. It is because of Sun Minghua that Zuguang knew Minghua&#146 s friend that resulted in the fire murder tragedy. Then Wang Jian doubling efforts to bring Jiasheng&#146 s son to justice because of close relations with Yinggu and Minghua. Events are closely linked and some things might never happen were it not for the feud between Jiasheng and Yinggu which Jiasheng brought onto himself. Every cause has its result and effect and no one can run away from his or her actions.

Show Rating
The storyline flows nicely (though the earlier episodes and any scenes involving Nancy Sit are boring). However the ICAC stuff and Baoyan going to jail make little sense to the plot at the end, that part looks very redundant. The ending is very rushed yet again, TVB rushes the ending where at 24 episodes it looks like there are still 2 or 3 more to go. I felt disappointed by the ending. This is still an enjoyable series if you don&#146 t expect too much though
