เรื่องย่อ :

แฟรงค์ ฮอร์ริแกน (Clint Eastwood) ตำรวจลับมือเก๋าที่ดำรงตำแหน่งนี้มานานมากครับ เขาอยู่ในเหตุการณ์ลอบสังหารประธานาธิบดีจอห์น เอฟ เคนเนดี้ด้วย จากเหตุครั้งนั้นทำให้แฟรงค์รู้สึกเหมือนมีตราบาปฝัง อยู่ในใจเสมอมา เขาจึงพยายามทำหน้าที่ตำรวจลับอย่างดีที่สุด เพื่อไม่ให้เกิดเรื่องร้ายขึ้นอีก

แต่แล้ว... การลอบสังหารกำลังจะเกิดขึ้นอีกครั้ง โดยชายที่เรียกตัวเองว่า บู๊ท (John Malkovich) ตามชื่อของฆาตกรที่สังหารประธานาธิบดีอับราฮัม ลินคอล์น หมอนี่คือฆาตกรอัจฉริยะที่วางแผนลอบสังหารประธานาธิบ ดีคนปัจจุบัน และที่ไม่เหมือนใครคือ มิตช์โทรไปหาแฟรงค์เพื่อแจ้งกับเขาโดยตรงว่า เขากำลังจะลอบสังหารปธน. ในไม่ช้า ขอให้แฟรงค์เตรียมรับมือไว้ให้ดี

ในขณะที่หัวหน้างานและคนอื่นๆ ในหน่วยตำรวจลับไม่ใคร่จะเชื่อเท่าไรว่านายคนนี้จะลอ บสังหาร ปธน. แต่ลางสังหรณ์บางอย่างบอกกับแฟรงค์ว่าหมอนี่เอาจริง และเขาต้องหาทางสืบ ล่าความจริง ลากคอมันออกมาก่อนที่มันจะทำสำเร็จ... เขาจะไม่ให้ใครมาลอบสังหารประธานาธิบดีต่อหน้าเขาอีก เป็นครั้งที่ 2!
