"....เรื่องราวในภาพยนต์ Girl with a Pearl Earring นั้นเป็นเรื่องราวที่เล่าถึงที่มาของภาพศิลปจิตรกรรม ที่มีชื่อเสียงที่ชื่อ ภาพว่า "Girl with a pearl earring" หรือ "หญิงสาวกับต่างหูมุก" เป็นภาพเขียนสีน้ำมันที่เขียนโดยโยฮันส์ เวร์เมร์ จิตรกรสมัยบาโรกชาวเนเธอร์แลนด์ ที่ปัจจุบันตั้งแสดงอยู่ที่ Mauritshuis, เฮกในประเทศเนเธอร์แลนด์

หญิงสาวในภาพเป็นสาวน้อยชื่อ ครีท (Scarlett Johansson) เธอเกิดในครอบครัวยากไร้จนต้องมาทำงานเป็นคนใช้บ้านค นรวย นั่นคือ บ้านของจิตรกร โยฮันส์ เวร์เมร์ (Colin Firth) นั่นเอง ในบ้านหลังนี้มีผู้อาศัยหลักๆคือ โยฮันส์, ภรรยาท้องแก่ของเขา, ลูกสาวตัวน้อย, หญิงชราผู้เป็นมารดาของภรรยา และคนรับใช้อีก 2-3 คน รวมถึงสาวน้อยครีทด้วย

เนื่องจากภาพยนต์เรื่องนี้สร้างจากนวนิยาย ที่เขียนเจาะลึกลงมาที่สาวน้อย ครีท ว่าชีวิตของเธอต้องประสบอะไรบ้าง ดังนั้นจึงไม่มีหลักฐานทางประวัติศาสตร์ใดๆที่จะมารอ งรับเป็นหลักฐานทั้ง สิ้น เป็นเพียงแค่นวนิยายเท่านั้น....

.....หนังเรื่องนี้ดำเนินเรื่องเอื่อยๆ แต่สำหรับฉันรู้สึกมันละมุนละไม เหมือนค่อยๆละเลียดกาแฟอุ่นๆ แกล้มขนมหวานไปพร้อมๆกัน บางช่วงทีจิบกาแฟจะสัมผัสได้ถึงรสขมปลายลิ้นแต่ช่วยใ ห้กลมกล่อมขึ้นด้วยการ เล็มขนมหวานแกล้มตาม เหมือนยามที่ได้สัมผัสความรู้สึกของตัวละคร ความรักที่อ่อนหวาน แต่มีรสขมยามที่ต้องทำใจรับรู้ว่า เป็นความรักต้องห้าม และไม่มีวันอยู่ร่วมกันได้...."
