Volume Cover Storyline


1. Days Gone Bye


After being shot , a small town Kentucky police officer , Rick Grimes , wakes up from a coma to a zombie infested world. Searching for his wife , Lori , and his son , Carl , leads him to Atlanta where he finds not only them , but other survivors as well , including his police officer partner , Shane. The small group of survivors deals with attacks from zombies and hopes for salvation from the government. Rick soon learns that this new world turns old friends into enemies.


2.Miles Behind Us


The survivors decide that they need to leave the outskirts of Atlanta and attempt to find shelter from not only the zombies , but the impending winter. Along the way , they pick up more survivors and find a gated community. After quickly discovering the danger of the gated community , they continue on their way and meet the Greene family. Despite Hershel s initial hospitality , the group is forced to leave. They soon find what may be the safest haven yet.

3 Safety Behind Bars


The group enters the prison and Rick and Tyreese steadily clear out the remaining zombies. They discover a few living inmates. Though cautious , the group leave the inmates to roam free. Rick invites the Greene family to the prison , which they accept. A mysterious murder leads the group to lock up an inmate who is in for murder , Dexter. However , it is quickly revealed to be someone else when Andrea is attacked. Dexter escapes and demands the group to leave.



4 The Heart s Desire

The group fights to stay at the prison , and succeed. Meanwhile , a mysterious young woman , Michonne , appears at the prison. She starts flirting with Tyreese , much to Carol s jealousy. Carol catches the two in an intimate moment and breaks off her relationship with Tyreese. Meanwhile , other relationships begin to flourish between Glenn and Maggie and Dale and Andrea. Rick and Tyreese have a physical altercation after Carol attempts suicide which forces Rick into a tough decision.

5 The Best Defense


The remaining survivors search the prison for supplies and find items to help them against the zombies. While testing out the new gear , they discover a helicopter overhead , but it crash lands. Rick , Glenn , and Michonne attempt to find the crash site and save any survivors. They discover that someone else has taken the survivors. Tracking the footprints , the come to a small fortified town called Woodbury. Welcoming at first , the three quickly discover this town is far from friendly.

6 This Sorrowful Life


After enduring unspeakable torture , Rick attempts to escape from Woodbury with Glenn and Michonne. Before leaving , Michonne gets her revenge on The Governor. One of the guards , Caesar , helps them escape. The three finally make it back to the prison to discover the zombies have breached the gate. The remaining prison survivors are still alive , and the three help in clearing out the zombie horde. After Caesar attempts to go back to Woodbury , Rick warns everyone that they need to prepare.

7 The Calm Before


Despite the fear of an attack from Woodbury , the remaining survivors try to move on with their life. Glenn and Maggie are wedded. Lori prepares to deliver and gives birth to Judith. The group also has some troubles , but they overcome all situations including Rick forgiving Lori for her infidelity with Shane and saving Dale s life from a zombie bite. After a few months , the group believes that an attack from Woodbury won t occur. But in one instant , any joy the group had vanishes quickly.
