ก่อนทำหนังเรื่องนี้ มาร์ตินสกอร์เซซี่ ติดยา และโรเบริด เดอเนโรได้ช่วยชีวิตเค้า เนโรเจอหนังสือ Raging Bull: My Story ปี1970 เป็นความทรงจำของนักมวยรุ่น middle weight Jake LaMotta และหนังเรื่องนี้ทำให้มาร์ตินสกอร์เซซี่กู้ชื่อเสียง ตัวเองกลับคืนมา ในด้านภาพยนต์

มาร์ติน และ Michael Chapman ตัดสินใจเลือก Film เป็นขาวดำ ที่ให้เห็นความรู้สึกที่แตกต่าง เหตุผลเพราะในช่วงปี 1940 มาร์ตินจำได้ว่า หนังสือนติยาสารเกี่ยวกะชกมวย เป็นภาพขาวดำ กับอารมณ์ที่รุนแรงโหดร้ายของนักมวย รุ่นมิดเดิ้นเวท Jake La Motta และความประสบความสำเร็จของเค้าที่ไม่เคยแพ้ใคร
